According to US retailer giant, WalMart, MAG 2 is officially on its way to the PlayStation 3 with a release date of January 25 2011. Has Zipper Interactive let slip a sequel for the 256 player online shooter?
The WalMart website which has the game down for release next year and a price of $59.82 is stating a release early next year, yet Zipper Interactive have not announced or even hinted at a possible sequel for the online shooter.
Zipper Interactive, the developers behind the SOCOM franchise and MAG, are currently still supporting the 256 player online shooter through regular updates. The team are also working on SOCOM 4 which is scheduled for next year.
It isn't unusual for games to be revealed through online retailers before they're announced, yet a sequel for January 2011 without any prior announcements or details seems very unlikely. MAG is still a popular online title on the PlayStation 3 and the current beta which is available on the PlayStation Store includes a wealth of new features and PlayStation Move support.
Class this as a rumor for now, a highly unlikely one at that.
Who knows, maybe if a sequel ever does come out it'll be a 512 player online shooter, well, we can only hope.
