It isn't rare for companies to register domain names for their upcoming games. Sometimes those domain names can be a play on an un-announced sequel, sometimes they can tell what is coming. So what is Dead Space: Sabotage?
Electronic Arts, the giant publisher which everyone knows, or should do, has registered the domain name Dead Space: Sabotage ahead of Dead Space 2 which releases in January 2011.
Website Superannuation was the one to break the news initially, a site famed for uncovering secret plans of publishers and developers well before they should.
The question remains, what exactly is Dead Space: Sabotage?
Dead Space 2, the upcoming sequel, is a big deal for EA. The company previously announced Dead Space: Ignition, a downloadable game tie-in for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Ignition is an interactive comic-style graphic novel with a "Choose Your Own Adventure" narrative and three different minigames. It serves as a prequel to Dead Space 2, following the game's hero, Isaac Clarke, before a Necromorph infestation of the space station known as The Sprawl.
Examining the name highlights a possible use for the new domain, another prequel. This prequel would be told between Dead Space: Ignition and Dead Space 2, telling the story of how The Sprawl was sabotaged, ending the Necromorph invasion.
Another theory could be a sequel to the on rails Nintendo Wii shooter Dead Space: Extraction, yet this is all speculation.
Then again, companies often register domains based around a popular franchise to protect its product, so it could be nothing at all.
One thing is for sure, Dead Space 2 is coming in January for PC, 360 and PS3. US residents will get it on January 25, Europe will be able to get it on January 28.
