Duke Nukem has more rumors than the woman that hangs round the back of the bike sheds, not that we would know. This time, rumor has it that Duke Nukem: Forever is indeed back in development, this time by Gearbox.
The rumor comes from an anonymous source which spoke with Kotaku regarding the game that's been on and off development for longer than we can remember.
There's a twist in this new rumor however, this time developers Gearbox have taken the reigns in the game's development, picking up where 3D Realms left off. Gearbox of course is famous for a number of games, most recently Borderlands. But Gearbox were also working on Duke Nukem: Begins, a title which was put on hold due to a court case between Take-Two, Gearbox and 3D Realms.
A demo of Duke Nukem: Forever may even be playable later this year the anonymous source has said.
With such a huge rumor comes a huge wall of denials. Gearbox won't confirm that the company is developing the title, neither will 3D Realms founder George Broussard, and with good reason, this could very well be one of the biggest announcements this year. We all want Duke Nukem back, we've got the bubble gum, have you?
A glimmer of hope resides in PAX for an announcement however. Gearbox software president Randy Pitchford indicated that he may be able to clarify the situation further at this year's Penny Arcade Expo.
For now, as with all the other Duke Nukem news, it is destined for the rumor section until we hear otherwise.
