Some of you may remember earlier this year, the long time development company 3D Realms, the creators of kick-ass game Duke Nukem, laid off the majority of its development team.
After the fall of the mighty studio, artwork spread showing parts of the in-development-for-12-years Duke Nukem Forever which fans were hoping to be something of a second coming for the Duke Nukem franchise, after all, everyone loves some "shake it baby".
Since then, all hope faded of Duke Nukem Forever ever seeing the light of day, with the recession on, cutbacks here there and everywhere, Duke Nukem looked like it had died and gone forever, but now due to a Facebook page which was stumbled on, Duke Nukem may yet make a return.
Titled Duke Nukem D-Day and touting the words "Duke Nukem doesn't stay down for long" the Facebook page shows a piece of artwork for what is being said to be a new game in the Duke Nukem series.
As you can see by the trailer below, the evidence is pretty substantial, but it begs the question, did Duke Nukem Forever actually go down head first or has it been re-branded 'D-Day'?
Both Take-Two Interactive and 3D Realms have not confirmed or denied the rumor, neither would they return any email regarding such enquiries.
Regardless, the Duke Nukem license is in a legal dispute between the developer 3D Realms and its parent company Apogee Software which hold the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever. So is this some marketing plot to get fans into a frenzy before making an announcement? Could the name change be to side-step the legal case with Apogee Software? Unfortunately no one knows and for the time being it's likely to stay that way. We'll just have to wait and see.
