Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 DLC Buster

I have seen a lot of rumours floating around over the past few days about Modern Warfare 2 map packs. The game is not out for another two months, but we're already talking DLC.

Some are saying that the Xbox 360 version will be getting fully exclusive map packs. Others are saying the DLC is a timed exclusive but would be free on the 360 and pay-for on the PS3.

Both rumours are false.

At E3 earlier this year, Microsoft and Infinity Ward did announce that two map packs for Modern Warfare 2 would be "coming first" to Xbox 360. What do they mean by "coming first"? Well, Microsoft usually releases their DLC on a Monday or a Tuesday, and Sony always releases on Thursdays. So that technically would be "coming first" to the 360. Some however have speculated it could be 2 months before the PS3 gets it. Either could be the case, but until Activision or Infinity Ward actually announce how long the exclusivity is, that's all it is - speculation.

Infinity Ward's 'Fourzerotwo' confirmed on his Twitter that there are definately no exclusive maps for the 360;

Apparently a message going around on PSN claiming exclusive #MW2 maps for Xbox 360. FTR - it's false. Don't believe random chain messages.

Notably absent however is any mention of the timed exclusivity period.

Also, free DLC? From Microsoft & Activision? For possibly the most anticipated and potentially revenue generating game of all time? No. The MW2 DLC is not going to be free on either the 360 or PS3.

Modern Warfare 2 is due out on PC/360/PS3 on 10th November 2009.
