With the recent release of the long awaited Fat Princess for the PlayStation 3, it should come as no surprise that the title is heading to the PlayStation Portable. Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake on the PSP is an almost identical version of its big brothers counterpart - gameplay wise, giving players the same tactical fun feel on the go.
There are a couple of differences in the PSP version however, one being the presentation of the game. The PSP version features a more storybook style in the way it explains the Fat Princess universe, like how the princesses went to the Black Forest and discovered all those pieces of cake that they like being fed, and no, the cake isn't a lie.. You'll also find that the PSP version contains more content, a lot more. Where the PS3 versions included just seven single-player chapters, the PSP on the other hand contains fifteen, doubling the content. The major difference though is the multiplayer, the single-player supports up to 24 players, make that, you and 23 AI-controlled characters, where the multiplayer mode supports 16 players, it only allows eight players against eight computer controlled opponents. One notable feature which is missing is voice communication, something which is used quite predominantly on the PS3 for creating your strategy.
A new game mode is also present, titled "Grim Reaper" which is quite fun. A black hat appears in the middle of the map and once a player acquires it they become the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper player has a six-heart health bar and a sickle to complete their objective, this goal being, killing as many opponents as possible before you get taken down yourself. Once you have been taken down then the hat re-appears for another player to pick up, it's certainly fun and best of all it's different.
Thankfully the classes all seem to be the same so the gameplay is equally as rewarding and exciting on the PSP version, you'll also be happy to know that the upgrade system has been brought over intact, this applies both to your classes and to your castle from which you mount your attack. From what we have seen the game does look very similar graphics wise with the same colourful art style, however the game does seem to suffer from slight frame rate drops when the action gets heavy.
Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake for the PlayStation Portable is scheduled to be released later this year and should be just as good as its counterpart on the PlayStation 3. In the meantime, check out the screenshots of the PSP version here.
