valve_and_icefrog_collaboration_outed_as_dota_2Defense of the Ancients, one of the most popular RTS mod's this side of Blizzard, and now Valve and IceFrog has been formally announced, along with details on the upcoming DoTA 2 game with some interesting insights.

Being touted as "a massive sequel for one of the most played games in the world," DoTA 2, like its predecessor, will be an RTS/Action RPG of biblical proportions, almost literally when Valve are involved.

Using Valve's Source engine, DoTA 2 will support three-lane maps, AI drop out support, (meaning if your opponent drops/quits/leaves then the AI will take over) plus achievements and the full roster of 100 heroes from DoTA Allstars.

A coaching system will also be included, allowing DoTA veterans to help newer players. The specifics of which haven't been released yet, but, certain features such as private chat channels and the ability to see the screen of the new player could very well be included. Valve and IceFrog haven't locked down the exact features yet, but they are being discussed.

No release date or shots yet either, you can definitely expect more information over the next few months though.
