Cryptic, the studio behind games such as Star Trek Online, have announced the next Neverwinter game today. Neverwinter, rumored to be an MMO is scheduled for release in Q4 2011.
The new Neverwinter game, the third in the series, yet not using the previous "Neverwinter: Nights" name, is rumored to be a new MMO for Cyptic, however, the studio have not confirmed what the genre may be other than a "co-op roleplaying game".
Inspired by the new book trilogy by RA Salvatore it focuses around the city of Neverwinter, a city that has "faced a great many disasters in the past hundred years."
Since the death of the last Lord of Neverwinter, who controls the city remains unclear and "factions still battle for dominance after the all-consuming Spellplague took a high toll on the population. Even Neverwinter’s dead are beginning to rise from their graves and march upon the city they once called home."
The Neverwinter games have always been based around the Dungeon's & Dragons ruleset and Neverwinter will be no different, no word on which edition it will be though.
Players will be able to choose from five character classes to play as, the official website teases some blacked out characters which we're guessing are Cleric, Sorcerer, Fighter, Assassin and Rogue. You'll be able to team up with friends or computer controlled allies and form up to five-person co-op groups.
Players can also create their own storylines and quests using an "extremely user-friendly content generation system," codenamed Forge.
It isn't due out for a while, Q4 2011 to be precise, so there's quite a while to wait and no doubt a lot more details to come.
