THQ and Double Fine announce Costume Quest

thq_and_double_fine_announce_costume_questTHQ has announced it's publishing Costume Quest from Double Fine, one of the games Studio boss Tim Schafer announced last month as one of the four titles he would be releasing, two downloadable and two retail.

The THQ deal which sees the company publishing Costume Quest also includes a second game coming in early 2011 which will be a third-person action adventure game.

Costume Quest takes place on Halloween night and players take on the role of young trick-or-treaters as they go around collecting sweets, points, cards and quest assignments from the houses throughout the neighbourhood.

These collectables are then used as power-ups for the combat mode in which the kids will turn into giant versions of their costumes with various superpowers to battle monsters in the streets, shopping malls and a carnival.

"We wanted to make a big impression with these, our first downloadable games ever," said CEO Tim Schafer. "So we are coming out swinging with two great adventures from two of the most creative minds in the company."

"We are delighted to work with the creative genius of Tim Schafer and the entire Double Fine studio," said Martin Good, executive VP of THQ Kids, Family, Casual Games, and Global Online Services.

"Delivering high-quality content across a variety of digital distribution platforms is an important growth initiative for us, and we are pleased to do so with two titles whose potential appeal could encompass both hardcore and casual players."

The concept comes from Tash Harris, Double Fine's lead animator.

No platforms for the title have been announced yet, neither has a release date.
