Xbox 360 getting memory support on April 6

xbox_360_getting_memory_support_on_april_6Microsoft has announced that a system update will be released for the Xbox 360 on April 6 enabling owners to plug in a USB flash drive to transfer game saves, demos, profiles, and more.

Once you connect a USB drive, the 360 will conduct a one time performance and integrity check to confirm the drive is working properly. You'll then be able to configure how much storage to use on the device, with a limit of up to 16GB. The remaining space can be accessed by a PC or Mac.

USB Hard drives haven't been confirmed as working, they may, but you'll still only be able to use the cap of 16GB.

  • You can have 2 devices connected to the console at a time, enabling up to 32GB of simultaneous storage.
  • The system won't just configure the device once it is connected to the console. You'll need to head to the memory area in system settings, select your USB Device, and choose from Configure Now (Format and Configure the Full Device), or Customize (you can choose how much memory you want configured for Xbox 360 from the free space on the device.)

There's plenty more information over on the Major's blog, including some screenshots on how it works.

It'll be available on April 6 when the update goes live.
