Gearbox have confirmed that the upcoming Borderlands will be releasing on Steam with additional features; exporting equipment cards as JPEG's and timedemo benchmark software.
No date has been given for the Steam release but the disc based PC version is now set to hit on October 30th while the console version comes in at October 23rd.
